About the Role

The Violence Intervention Programme Coordinator provides leadership, education, and oversight of the Health New Zealand district-wide Violence Intervention Programme (VIP).

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference by strengthening clinical practice, building workforce capability, and ensuring safe, responsive care for patients experiencing family violence across the Nelson Marlborough region.

We invite applications from Registered Social Workers, Registered Nurses, or other Registered Health Professionals with relevant experience and a strong interest in family violence prevention, intervention, and child protection in health settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee implementation of the Violence Intervention Programme across the region
  • Provide expert advice, clinical guidance, and training on family violence response to clinical and non-clinical staff
  • Support services to meet national VIP standards and audit requirements
  • Strengthen partnerships with community agencies and external stakeholders
  • Promote a culture of safety, equity, and trauma-informed care


About the Team/Service/ Location

The VIP team works across Hospital & Specialist Services and community partners to address intermit partner violence (IPV) and elder abuse and neglect. As part of our commitment to patient safety and equity, the hospital implements the Programme to:

  • Improve early identification of family violence
  • Ensure safe, supportive responses to disclosure
  • Strengthen referral pathways and interagency collaboration
  • Embed best practice screening and documentation processes

About you

You will be a registered health professional with:

  • Current registration and annual practising certificate in New Zealand
  • Experience working with individuals and whānau affected by family violence
  • Strong knowledge of trauma-informed practice and safeguarding frameworks
  • Knowledge of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 and Domestic Violence Act 2018 along with other relevant legislation and its application in health settings
  • Understanding of the Tiriti O Waitangi, Whānau Ora and implications in clinical practice

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid NZ visa at the time of applying.
