About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Sonographer to join our Radiology team at Nelson Hospital on a permanent full‑time basis, working 80 hours per fortnight (1.0 FTE).

In this role, you will deliver a safe, high‑quality ultrasound service within a clinical environment, completing full examinations and recommending appropriate techniques to support patient care.

This position involves rostered and rotating shifts Monday to Sunday, with start and finish times between 8.00am and 9.00pm. There is no formal on‑call requirement, however best‑endeavours support may be required for acute criteria.

Preference will be for a 1.0 FTE position, however, all applicants are welcome to apply with ability to work dual scope in general x-ray if you wish. Please indicate your preference in your cover letter.

About you

As a Sonographer, you will bring:

  • Experience across general, vascular, upper abdominal, obstetric, gynaecological, and musculo‑skeletal ultrasound;
  • Registration with the NZMRTB along with a current Annual Practising Certificate in Ultrasound;
  • Strong technical skills and sound clinical knowledge;
  • Well‑developed communication and critical‑thinking skills, with a commitment to family‑centred care;
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a small, supportive team;
  • A strong commitment to delivering high‑quality healthcare.

You will also be adaptable, versatile, and comfortable working in a constantly changing clinical environment.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid NZ visa at the time of applying.
