About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Trainee Psychiatric Registrar to join our dynamic and supportive mental health team.

As a Psychiatric Registrar - Trainee, you will:

  • Work under the supervision of consultant psychiatrists to assess, diagnose, and manage patients with mental health conditions,
  • Rotate through various subspecialties including general adult, child and adolescent, old age, addiction, and consultation-liaison psychiatry,
  • Provide high-quality psychiatric care in inpatient and community settings,
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case reviews, and family conferences,
  • Be actively involved in teaching, supervision, and ongoing professional development,
  • Contribute to after-hours and on-call rosters as required.

This is a permanent, full-time role working 80 hours per fortnight (1.0 FTE), Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.30AM to 4.30PM.

On-call is required to cover for leave and sickness of others. This roster pattern will be flexible.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our teams offer both inpatient and community-based care. General adult psychiatry accounts for the majority of work in the region, although there are several specialist teams, including those for youth, rural areas, and older persons.

About you

As a Psychiatric Registrar - Trainee, you will:

  • Be currently enrolled or eligible to enrol in a recognised Psychiatry Training Program (e.g. RANZCP),
  • Have current registration or eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of NZ / relevant body],
  • Have a strong clinical acumen, communication, and interpersonal skills,
  • Have commitment to evidence-based practice, ethical care, and ongoing learning,
  • Have the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid NZ visa at the time of applying.
