About the Role

As a Patient Support & Security Worker, you willensure that we continue to provide a welcoming and safe environment for the Older Persons Mental Health Inpatient Unit at Alexandra Hospital..  You will be working alongside our dedicated nursing team to best meet the needs of patients and their whānau accessing our services. 

This is a causal position on an as required basis with availability to work afternoons, nights and weekends essential. There is no on call required although the ability to be called in at short notice would be an advantage.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Older Persons Mental Health Admission Unit at Alexandra Hospital promotes psychiatric care and assessment for the older members of our community based in Richmond.

We practice in a collaborative patient partnership model of care to achieve best outcomes for our patients/families and whānau.

About you

We are looking for an individual with a mature outlook and proven ability to communicate in a clear, considerate manner with genuine compassion. You will also have the ability to work in a flexible and methodical manner, demonstrate honesty and reliability, and use appropriate initiative. 

As a Patient Support & Security Worker, you will be:

• The type of person who works in a rational and calm manner;
• Someone who has the skills and experience to effectively de-escalate difficult situations and promotes a safe and therapeutic environment;
• Able to relate well to patients and their visitors;
• Able to work with the clinical team and follow directions. 

Previous experience in security, health care, or a related industry is preferred. However, this is not essential as training will be provided. 

Additionally, you will have:

• Empathy and a non-judgmental attitude towards patients and members of the public;
• The ability to relate with ease to people from a variety of different cultures and backgrounds;
• The ability to recognise and pass on issues that may affect patient welfare;
• A good level of physical fitness and mobility. 

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid NZ visa at the time of applying.
