Ophthalmology Technician, Nelson Hospital, Permanent Part-time

About the Role

As an Ophthalmology Technician, you will provide critical support and follow-up services to out-patient clinics freeing up our Ophthalmologists to focus on providing further procedures. You will have experience performing visual field, vision test, biometry, topography, eidon, Oct and other tests.

This is a permanent part time role working 48 hours per fortnight (0.6 FTE), Monday to Friday between the hours of 8.00AM to 6.00PM. this includes working half a day shifts when required to suit service delivery.  There is no on-call.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Ophthalmology Departments at both sites (Nelson hospital and Wairau hospital) are contemporary services based on a team of Ophthalmologists who have general and subspecialist training, specialist nurses, orthoptists, optometrists and technicians. There is a comprehensive suite of equipment including OCT, Fields, Photography, and Lasers.

About you

As an Ophthalmology Technician, you will have:

  • A health related qualification or relevant experience;
  • Previous experience as a technician within Ophthalmology desirable
  • Knowledge and care of specialised equipment required;
  • Competency in performing OCT, Visual field, eidon, vision test and Retinal Field Examinations desirable.
  • Understanding and experience working with clients with visual impairment.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid NZ work visa at the time of applying.
