About the Role

About the Team/Location

The Nurse Educator – High Dependency Unit (HDU) is an essential member of both the HDU and Workforce Development teams. The role promotes a supportive “how can I help?” culture and applies the Fundamentals of Care framework to strengthen patient outcomes. 

You will coach and educate HDU staff to build clinical capability and improve patient and whānau experiences. Working alongside the team in a clinical coaching capacity, you will lead evidence‑based practice, develop targeted education, identify learning needs, and support staff to translate learning into safe, effective, person‑centred care. 

A key part of this role is ensuring strong clinical quality systems are in place across nursing services to support consistent, high‑quality care delivery. 

We have a small but busy HDU at Wairau Hospital, we aim to provide a supportive and nurturing workplace to assist staff to meet the challenges of this diverse area, at the frontline of the acute health care service.

About you

  • You will be a solution focused problem solver with demonstrated adaptability and resilience.
  • You will have excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to teach adults in both an informal and formal setting.
  • A Registered Nurse with a current practicing certificate and experience in both adult critical care and coronary care. 
  • Strong communicator with proven ability to teach adults in both formal and informal settings. 
  • Holds or is working towards an Expert portfolio and a Postgraduate Diploma.
  • Certificate in Adult Teaching Level 4 or a postgraduate Education paper.
