About the Role
As the Midwife Manager of the Nelson Maternity Service you will provide clinical expertise, leadership and management of the maternity service.
In this role you will promote a safe, evidence-based practice environment that supports service requirements and meets the needs of women, babies and whānau in the Nelson-Tasman District.The Midwife Manager will ensure that maternity services are delivered in a way that meets our obligations to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and achieves equitable maternal and neonatal health outcomes across the communities we serve. Nelson Maternity services will achieve a high standard of quality and safety in accordance with the national maternity service specifications and standards and address the key priorities in the Te Wai Pounamu regional health services plan.
The Midwife Manager will report to the
District Chief Midwife in Nelson Marlborough Health.
- You will demonstrate sound professional judgement, strong leadership skills with a clear commitment to high-quality care, improving health outcomes for Māori and development of the service.
- Supporting and leading initiatives to increase workforce diversity and sustainability will be key.
- You will be able to demonstrate relevant experience and knowledge of women and whānau safety, resource management including budgeting, equipment and staff. Support will be provided where necessary.
- It is expected that you will have significant midwifery experience, a current APC with no conditions and evidence of post graduate qualifications. Previous management experience is preferred.

About You
- Nelson Marlborough health offers a strong midwifery model of care within our maternity services and you will be key to driving services closer to home and addressing health inequalities. The Nelson hospital maternity service has an excellent core secondary team and supports local LMC’s to provide high-quality and accessible primary maternity services. The service is well supported by the Midwifery Education programme, Midwifery Clinical Coach, MQSP programme, and strong links with other community health care providers. We provide leadership development within the health care arena.
