Ngā mōhiohio e pā hānga ki tēnei mahi (About this position)
The Older Persons’ Mental Health Inpatient Unit, at Alexandra Hospital in Richmond, provides psychiatric and geriatric care for the older members of our community. We aspire to provide high quality inpatient care to patients with acute mental health needs and/or complex age related health conditions. We work in partnership with our patients, their families, the clinical team and community carers and supports to achieve the best possible health outcome for the patient.
As a Mental Health Assistant your role is to work with the team to provide basic nursing care under the supervision and direction of Registered Nurses. This can include working with challenging behaviours.
As this is a casual position - it will be important that you are available for all shifts including mornings, afternoons and night shifts, and that you have the flexibility to work school holidays, public holidays and weekends.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, who has experience in older persons’ health care and has an affinity with the elderly. It is equally important that you are able to work in a flexible and methodical manner, demonstrate honesty and reliability and use appropriate initiative.
Required qualifications include:
- Year 11 NCEA level 1 English (or equivalent)
- Year 11 NCEA level 1 Maths (or equivalent)
- NZQA Level 3 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand (or equivalent)
