Ngā mōhiohio e pā ana ki tēnei mahi (About this position)

The oncology nursing service provides holistic specialist nurse assessment, care and education to patients and whanau diagnosed with cancer. 

As a Health Care Assistant in our dedicated nursing environment, you will receive full support while working alongside cancer nurses to provide care to patients undergoing chemotherapy and occasionally assisting patients in the community.

Responsibilities include but not limited to helping patients maintain their comfort, ensuring support information is available to patients and their whanau, therapeutic conversation where appropriate and other tasks as directed. 

Every day is different and our nursing team enjoys the variety of work, the people they interact with, and the challenge of giving each patient the best possible experiencewhilst ensuring that everything runs to schedule. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and friendly person to join our team working 40 hours a fortnight (0.5FTE) on a 6 month, fixed-term basis. 

Your hours of work will be 4 rostered days per week Monday to Friday 9.00AM to 2.30PM.

You will have the ability to get on with a wide variety of people, have great communication skills and love helping people. You will have the ability to work in a flexible manner, demonstrating honesty and reliability.  Good IT and organisational skills are a bonus.

Experience within the health sector is preferred but is not essential as full training will be provided. 

Qualifications

Essential

  • Year 11 NCEA level 1 English (or equivalent)
  • Year 11 NCEA level 1 Maths (or equivalent)

For the health and safety of staff and patients all NMH staff are required to be vaccinated in accordance with the COVID-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order 2021.
