About the Role
The Day Stay Unit at Nelson Hospital provides services for all surgery day cases, day of admission surgery, medical day cases, radiological procedures and numerous infusion services.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and friendly person to join the unit working 72 hours a fortnight
As a Health Care Assistant you will be part of our dedicated nursing environment with full support. Your role is to work within the team to assist nursing staff in care delivery, one-to-one patient watches and other tasks as directed.
Every day is different, and our nursing team enjoys the variety of work, the people they interact with, and the challenge of giving each patient the best customer experience, whilst ensuring that everything runs to schedule.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The Day Stay Unit is a small team of staff who provide care to patients Monday – Friday. We are a very fast paced unit with approximately 30 patients each day. We strive to provide the best care to our patients. We are located on Level 3 and share space with MAPU and Post Endoscopy Service.
About you
You will have a positive and mature outlook and the ability to get on with a wide variety of people. You will have excellent communication skills and will work in a flexible and methodical manner, demonstrate honesty and reliability, and appropriate use of initiative.
Experience within the health sector is preferred but is not essential as full training will be provided.
Qualifications
Essential
- Year 11 NCEA level 1 English (or equivalent)
- Year 11 NCEA level 1 Maths (or equivalent)
- NZQA level 3 qualification (or equivalent)*
Desirable
- Home Carer Certificate (or equivalent)
Mandatory requirement
*NZQA Level 3: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand, if not previously obtained, is to be commenced once orientations have been attended.
