About the Role
Nelson Hospital is seeking a dedicated
and experienced General Medicine Physician to join our dynamic and collegial
medical team. This is an excellent opportunity to practise, rewarding and
challenging general medicine in a supportive secondary care setting, while
contributing to service development and the future of healthcare delivery in
the region.
As a key member of our General Medicine service, you will provide high-quality, patient-centred care across acute and inpatient settings, working closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team to deliver excellent outcomes for the Nelson population.
- Deliver high quality services to improve health of the population in Nelson.
- Participate in the general medicine acute roster with 4 hours average call-back a week.
- Teach and develop our growing junior medical workforce.
- Contribute to the design of services fit for the future, including contributing to the design of our newly approved 225-bed clinical services block

range of general medical care across acute and inpatient settings, supported by
a well-resourced and collaborative multidisciplinary team. The culture is one

Nelson Hospital is a modern, 150-bed secondary care facility that serves the top of the South Island, offering a vibrant working environment with a focus on quality patient outcomes. You will benefit from excellent onsite and regional support, including
- SMO led Emergency Department
- 24hr General Medicine Registrar support
- Acute Cardiology team including interventional service
- 24/7 virtual telestroke
- Full subspecialty support from within Nelson or through aligned Tertiary partners.

About you
The ideal applicant will:
- Bring strong general medical expertise and experience to an acute secondary care hospital and contribute to advanced care of acute inpatients and outpatients across the region.
- Have one of the following subspecialty interests: Renal, Respiratory, and Stroke Medicine, however, all areas will be considered.
- Hold Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent.
- Be eligible for an Annual Practising Certificate and
vocational scope of Internal Medicine/Rural Hospital Medicine with the
Medical Council of New Zealand.
