Dental Assistant - Community Oral Health Service

At the Community Oral Health Service (COHS) we focus on prevention of oral health disease, reducing inequalities in child oral health, and education to improve the health status of children in our community. The team will tell you they love the relationships formed over the years with children and their families.

We have a permanent full-time position available working 40 hours a week in our Nelson Tasman clinics. Our usual clinic hours of work are 8.00AM and 5.00PM Monday to Friday. 

Duties will include: 

  • Providing chairside assistance, including setup and clean-up, for our clinicians working to improve the oral health of our local children.
  • Processing dental radiographs.
  • Providing administrative support to the clinics. 

You will mainly work out of the hub in Nelson, however, from time-to-time you be required to work in the wider Nelson/Tasman region and occasionally on our mobile clinic.

Previous dental and administrative experience is preferred, however, comprehensive training can be provided to the preferred applicant. 

You will have a good standard of oral and written communication (minimum of Year 11 NCEA English and Maths – or equivalent) and, if not previously attained, you will be prepared to undertake the NZQA Level 3: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Dental Assistance) which is to be completed within 2 years of commencement in the role. It’s also important that you hold a drivers licence.
