About the Role
As an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist (O&G
Specialist), you will provide medical and surgical care related to pregnancy,
childbirth, and the female reproductive system, addressing a wide range of
health concerns from routine antenatal care to complex gynaecological
conditions. In additional, you will teach and develop our junior medical team.
The successful candidate will have proven
experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology, with an interest and
demonstrated competency in colposcopy. You will play a key role in the
assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients, ensuring quality and
continue of care for those referred to colposcopy services.
About the Team/Service/ Location
The Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) service at
Wairau Hospital provides high-quality care for women at all stages of life, from
pregnancy and childbirth to gynaecological health and well-being. Our obstetric
services include antenatal care, labour and delivery, with a strong focus on
promoting safe and positive birth experiences. The hospital offers a
well-equipped birthing unit and provides care for women with low to
moderate-risk pregnancies, with clear pathways for transfer to tertiary
services when required.
For gynaecological care, we offer
a wide range of services, including the management of menstrual disorders,
menopause, pelvic pain, and gynaecological surgeries.
The O&G team at Wairau
Hospital works closely with primary care providers, midwives, and other
healthcare professionals to ensure seamless, coordinated care. We are dedicated
to supporting women and their families with expert guidance, advanced medical
treatment, and a commitment to excellence in women’s health.

About you
The ideal applicant will:
- Hold FRANZCOG or equivalent post graduate qualification in O&G.
- Be eligible for an Annual Practising Certificate and vocational scope of O&G with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Bring their O&G expertise and competencies to contribute to the advanced treatment and medical care of the female patients in the region.
- Have experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery and pelvic floor surgery.
- Hold
or be eligible for C-QuiP certification for colposcopy.
