About the Role
We
are seeking a 4-month fixed-term, commencing in early July 2027, experienced
General Surgeon to contribute to the delivery of high-quality surgical care
while enjoying everything the Nelson region has to offer. Preference is for a Breast and Advanced Skin
surgeon (or Skin Oncological surgeon) however consideration will be given to
applicants with Breast only experience.
Working within a collaborative and highly respected multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in delivering both planned care and acute services, ensuring safe and effective patient-centred outcomes. You will join a dedicated team of 7 experienced and supportive General Surgical SMO colleagues, 3 surgical trainees, 7 junior registrars, 1 Vascular Surgeon and 1 Vascular Nurse Practitioner.
You will be working within a secondary care setting participating in the ASOC week (Acute Surgeon on-Call), outpatient clinic and theatre covering planned care and acute theatre sessions. You are expected to participate in an after-hours on call roster.

About you:
The ideal applicant will:
- Be an experienced General Surgeon with a subspecialty in Breast & Advanced Skin surgery (or Skin Oncological Surgeon), however consideration will be given for any surgeon with Breast only skillset.
- Be eligible for an Annual Practicing Certificate with vocational scope in General Surgery with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Hold Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of General Surgeons (RACS), or equivalent.
- Work with others to promote a cohesive team culture of collaborative practice, openness, humour, and respect across disciplines.
