About the Role

As a Clinical Psychologist (Mental Health), you will be working with individuals aged 18 and up, who are experiencing acute, severe and /or chronic mental health difficulties. As part of the Nelson based team, you will be working closely alongside other talking therapists and be part of a larger multi-disciplinary team.

As part of this team, you will be involved in processing and managing psychology referrals, the waitlist and providing psychological perspectives at MDT for routine and complex cases. You are also strongly encouraged to participate in and initiate service development projects as appropriate. You will also be encouraged to take up opportunities which expose you to organisational and operational matters as they occur. 

You will be involved in providing supervision to psychology colleagues, growing to supervision of colleagues of other disciplines. You will have an annual performance review, which is an opportunity for career reflection and goal setting with seniors and your professional lead.

This is a permanent, full-time working 80 hours per fortnight (1.0 FTE), Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8.00AM to 5.00PM.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Psychological Team ~ we are a team of over 25 psychologists located across Nelson, Blenheim and Golden Bay.  We are a generalist service, although wherever possible we can support you to further personal interests and the provision of psychological services to sub speciality fields. We work across, adult, child, addictions, inpatient and health services.

We value collegiality and are looking for someone who shares this approach. We need someone who has an aptitude for working within a public funded health system.

We are committed to ensuring clinicians are engaged in ongoing professional development and that they have the right supervision to support them in this. Both the NZ Psychological Society and the NZ College of Clinical Psychologist have active branches in the Nelson area and provide opportunities for members to attend training and maintain connections with psychologists in private practice. 

We have links with tertiary institutions and support training programmes through student placements and internships. You can mentor and or supervise students on placement.

About you

As a Clinical Psychologist (Mental Health), you will:

  • Have post-registration experience in a mental health setting and up-to-date knowledge of psychological interventions relating to mental health issues,
  • Have excellent interpersonal and organisations skills and will be an active participant in our multidisciplinary teams,
  • Be the type of person who fits into a cohesive team culture of collaborative practice, openness, humour, and respect across disciplines,
  • Engender confidence, trust and rapport with clients and their support networks.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid NZ visa at the time of applying.
