About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the transformation of cancer services and improve the lives of people affected by cancer throughout our region.

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Cancer Manager to lead the progression of initiatives that enhance cancer services across the district.

This pivotal role has been created as part of the Government's transformative investment in cancer treatment and services. You will play a key role in improving access to new cancer medicines, implementing national service delivery models of care, and shaping the future model of cancer care for our communities.

Based within the Nelson Marlborough region, this role will require regular travel across the district to engage with teams, stakeholders, and service providers.

This is a fixed term, full time role for 24 months working 80 hours per fortnight (1.0 FTE), Monday to Friday. No on-call is required.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Cancer Services across Te Tauihu is a dynamic and growing service delivering high-quality, patient-centred cancer care across the Top of the South. With teams based at Nelson and Wairau Hospitals, alongside a dedicated Rural Oncology service, we provide comprehensive medical oncology and haematology care to a diverse population.

Our strength lies in our people and our partnerships. We are a highly engaged multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, coordinators, administrators and leaders working alongside Primary Care, Hauora Māori, Palliative Care, and regional specialist services to deliver integrated cancer care. Together, we are committed to innovation, equity, collaboration, and continuously improving the experience and outcomes of those living with cancer and their whānau.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Proven experience in healthcare management, programme management, or service improvement;
• Strong project leadership and change management skills;
• Experience working with multidisciplinary stakeholders in complex health environments;
• Excellent communication, problem solving, negotiation, and relationship-building capabilities;
• Strategic thinking combined with the ability to deliver practical outcomes;
• Knowledge of cancer services, healthcare operations, or clinical service development is highly desirable;
• Relevant tertiary qualification in health, management, project management, or a related discipline.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid NZ work visa at the time of applying.
