Allied Health Assistant, Nelson Hospital, Permanent Part-time

  • We're looking for 2 enthusiastic Allied Health Assistant / Kaiāwhina to join our Allied Health Equipment Store at Nelson Hospital.
  • This is a varied and rewarding role where you'll play a vital part in supporting patient rehabilitation and independence through the management, delivery, and maintenance of Allied Health equipment.

About the Role

As an Allied Health Assistant, you will work closely with Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and fellow Allied Health Assistants to support the delivery of high-quality care across our services.

Based primarily within the Allied Health Equipment Store, you'll be responsible for:

  • Managing and maintaining Allied Health equipment and stock;
  • Coordinating equipment deliveries, collections, and servicing;
  • Supporting therapists with equipment requests and enquiries;
  • Assisting with delegated patient-related activities;
  • Ensuring equipment is safe, organised, and readily available for clinical use;

This is a busy and hands-on role that requires excellent organisation, initiative, and a commitment to providing outstanding service.

One is a permanent, part-time position working 56 hours per fortnight (0.70 FTE);
The other a permanent, part-time position working 60 hours per fortnight (0.75 FTE) Monday to Friday between the hours of 7.30am to 5.00pm.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Nelson Equipment Store team is a small and hard-working team that support the inpatient, outpatient and community Allied Health teams with their equipment needs.

About you

You'll be someone who enjoys a practical role, takes pride in staying organised, and thrives in a team environment. You'll have excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with patients, whānau, colleagues, and community providers.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills;
  • Good physical fitness and a practical, hands-on approach;
  • Confidence using information technology systems;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn;
  • The ability to follow instructions carefully and provide accurate feedback.

Experience within the health sector, knowledge of Allied Health equipment, or previous equipment management experience would be advantageous, but is not essential.
