About the Role
As a key member of our General Surgery team, you will play an essential role in delivering high-quality care. Working in a collaborative and well-respected team, you will contribute to both planned care and acute services, ensuring safe and effective patient outcomes.
You become part of a dedicated team of 7 experienced and supportive General Surgical SMO colleagues, 3 surgical trainees, 7 junior registrars, 1 Vascular Surgeon and 1 Vascular Nurse Practitioner. You will work with highly competent surgical, nursing and administrative teams, all committed to delivering excellence in patient care.
You will be working within a secondary care setting participating in the ASOC week (Acute Surgeon on-Call), outpatient clinic, theatre and endoscopy covering planned care and acute theatre sessions. You are expected to participate in an after-hours on call roster.

Nelson’s General Surgery team consists of experienced consultants covering a wide range of generalist and subspecialty skills required in a secondary care setting. About you
The ideal applicant will:
- Bring clinical expertise to a smaller provincial hospital and contribute to the care of patients in the Nelson Tasman region.
- Be eligible for an Annual Practicing Certificate with vocational scope in General Surgery with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- Hold Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of General Surgeons (RACS), or equivalent.
- Work with others to promote a cohesive team culture of collaborative practice, openness and respect across disciplines.
