Support Worker - Physical Disability Support Services (Casual Pool)

Mission: Supporting people to live the best possible life

  • Casual Positions

We are experiencing growth with the development of innovative programs designed around delivering person-centred, family-focused supports, which presents you with the opportunity to work in an environment that is varied, fun, rewarding and that will sometimes bring a challenge to your day. We can guarantee no two days will ever be the same!

At Physical Disability Support Services (PDSS) we create opportunities for people with a disability to live great lives reflecting their personal aspirations and choices.

We are looking for positive people to become part of our proactive supportive team delivering care and support across three residential homes in Blenheim, on a casual basis. The challenges will be outweighed by the daily achievements and the rewards from making a difference in people’s lives.

Casual positions cover staff training, leave and illness, with some forward planning and scheduling available; however, it will be important that you have the flexibility to work across a range of shifts, sometimes at short notice.

We’re looking for people who have:

  • A sense of humour
  • Good social skills and the ability to relate well to others
  • Diversity to work with a range of people with differing levels of support needs
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality, be tactful and sensitive in dealing with people
  • Commitment to professional development
  • An ability to work actively as part of a team and individually to ensure service quality
  • A current full drivers licence (preferably to drive both automatic and manual vehicles)
  • Good English language ability (written and spoken)
  • Confidence in assisting with personal cares
  • Energy and enthusiasm
  • Flexibility to work across a range of shifts, sometimes at short notice.

Previous experience in the disability, aged care or community work fields is preferred.  However, if you have the passion to work within this field, we offer in-service training with ongoing professional development towards a national qualification.

Your hourly rate will be $19.00 to $23.50 dependent upon your qualifications as recognised under the Care and Support Workers (Pay Equity) Settlement Act 2017.

Applicants for these positions must be NZ or Australian Citizens, or have NZ Permanent Residency, or a valid NZ work visa.

Applications are only accepted online, so to apply or to view the position description please go to our careers website

Appointment and ongoing employment will be conditional upon criminal record/police checks. This may include checks under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014.
