About the role
Nelson Marlborough Health’s (NMH’s) Mental Health and Addictions Service is seeking a Specialist Psychiatrist to work on a permanent 0.4FTE (32 hours a fortnight) basis as an older persons’ consultant, working within the Marlborough community. Older Persons’ Mental Health (OPMH) currently has the equivalent of 1.6 full time equivalent psychiatrists across the district.
About the service
OPMH inpatient care for the Nelson Marlborough region is based at Alexandra Hospital, in Richmond (near Nelson), which has capacity for 10 patients. Inpatient services are limited to those requiring acute assessment and treatment.
OPMH Community services are located in Richmond and at Wairau Hospital in Blenheim. These services provide community based assessment and treatment, time limited case management and liaison services. We work in partnership with patients, their families, General Practitioners, other clinical teams and community carers and supports to achieve the best possible health outcome for our patients. The current vacancy is with the community team based in Blenheim.
Applicants must hold Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent, and be eligible for an Annual Practising Certificate and vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council. Experience in older persons’ psychiatry is preferable.

The salary for this position will be the range of $161,304 – $240,000 per annum (as per the current senior medical and dental officer collective agreement) dependent on skills, experience and gaining full vocational registration in NZ. You will also have access to up-to 10 days and a $16,000 allowance to put towards your continued medical education.
