Registered Nurses – Older Persons’ Mental Health

About the role

The Older Persons Mental Health Admission Unit provides psychiatric and geriatric care for the older members of our community.  We aspire to deliver high quality inpatient care to patients with acute mental health needs and co-existing age related health conditions. We work in partnership with patients, their families, the clinical team and community carers and supports to achieve the best possible health outcome for the patient. 

This is a fixed-term, full-time, position working 80 hours a fortnight, as rostered, covering a staff member's leave until 17 February 2020.

About you

You will be a NZ Registered Nurse with current registration and APC, and will have a minimum of one years’ post graduate nursing experience. 

You will also be a team player, who enjoys keeping up to date with clinical practice, with excellent organisational, interpersonal and time management skills and a commitment to quality. It will be important that you have the skills to work with patients who present with challenging behaviours.


Required experience and knowledge includes:

  • Physical and mental disorders commonly experienced in older persons
  • Contemporary treatment approaches including person-centred care, sensory modulation, therapeutic use of self and therapeutic use of psychiatric medications
  • Mental Health assessment and care planning
  • Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act, 1992
  • PPPR Act - Welfare Guardianship
